What causes the side effects?
The brief high dose of radiation kills the hiding brainless cancer cells; however, it also damages the normal intelligent cells, which causes the side effects. Many teens have no radiation side effects at all.

How long do the side effects last?
There are two main types of side effects, which are acute and chronic.
Acute, the short-term, side effects occur around the treatment time and usually vanish within a few weeks of finishing radiation therapy.
Chronic, the long-term, side effects may develop months or years later and usually permanent.
